Entering the Jewish New Year with the month of Tishrei caused me to revisit the Gospels and Torah (The first five books of the Bible) over the past few days. In my spirit, I keep hearing “the times and seasons of God.” With that thought in mind, I was just beginning to write a post about Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and the days of Awe when I came across the best talk I’ve heard between two Israeli believers on the very same days.
Dr. Erez Soref joins the host of One for Israel on today’s podcast.2 I presented the transcript of his podcast on the Israeli flag1 because it’s off the internet. I don’t want you to miss the video on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), Zechariah 12, and how to pray for Israel and the Jewish people in the coming days. He opened my eyes to some unique insights. A reading from the Kingdom Dynamics section in the Spirit-Filled Life Bible reminds us, Gentile believers, why it’s so important to understand where our faith came from. The remarks come after reading Ephesians 2:13:
“But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.“
Gentiles Embraced by Christ’ Sacrifice
THE BLOOD – C. S.
Prior to the New Covenant, Gentiles were excluded from citizenship in the commonwealth of Israel and were foreigners to the covenant promises of God. There was no hope in this life and no ability to know God's presence in the world. The covenant sacrifice of Christs’ blood took Gentile believers who were far from God and joined them together with the Jews in the New Covenant. Gentiles were grafted in to enjoy the covenants of promise through the New Covenant and were included as heirs with the patriarchs of all of God's promises.
The Church pulled away from its Jewish roots around 300 A.D. I’ve always wondered why. Jesus didn’t become less Jewish by birth. The God He introduced us to is the same God who gave us the ENTIRE Bible and, as Paul points out, the patriarchs of all of God’s promises. For modern Christians, it is a conundrum because we are far removed from the original Church, who understood their faith in God, the Father, and His son Jesus’ shed blood removed the wall of separation between us.
