America Chooses Life…
Friday, America’s Supreme Court chose life with their decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Early in the morning, before the announcement, I found myself reading the Book of Ezekiel as I examined my new Hebrew/English Bible, which includes both the Old and New Testaments. Something about the translation made me wonder if I might find different wording from another source, so I opened my copy of The Israel Bible and found a precious lesson on life – life as it pertains to every child from creation to birth. When I learned of the decision late Friday afternoon, I thought of this teaching immediately!
The reading from Ezekiel 6:2:
O mortal, turn your face toward the mountains of Yisrael and prophesy to them
ben a-DAM SEEM pa-NE-kha el ha-RAY yis-ra-AYL v’-hi-na-VAY a-lay-HEM
בבֶּן־אָדָם שִׂים פָּנֶיךָ אֶל־הָרֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהִנָּבֵא אֲלֵיהֶם׃
The Israel Bible’s commentary is broken down in four categories, three of which are identified by an icon at the beginning of a study. We are reading a Hebrew lesson – always represented by bearing the letter aleph and the focus on the meaning of a Hebrew word or phrase.

א
6:2
O mortal
Throughout the book of Yechezkel (Ezekiel), God consistently refers to Yechezkel as ben adam (בן אדם), meaning ‘son of man’ or ‘mortal.’ Adam (אדם) is the Hebrew word for ‘man.’
According to Rabbi Matityahu Glazerson, this word is reflective of the three partners who participate in the creation of a human being: the father, the mother and the Holy One, blessed is He. The letter alef (א), whose numerical value is one, represents, the Holy One who provides the spiritual component, the soul. The remaining two letters, dalet (ד) and mem (מ), spell dam (דם), meaning ‘blood,’ which symbolizes the physical aspect contributed by the father and mother.
The Israel Bible is full of information on modern Israel along with many other tools to help Believers connect to the world’s first Tanakh/Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) centered around the Land of Israel, the People of Israel, and the dynamic relationship between them. I met Rabbi Tuly Weisz when he was just beginning The Israel Bible project,. (That story is for another post.) I will be posting resources for visitors to this site, but until then… Visit TheIsraelBible.com!
